Built a pickleball paddle encyclopedia with 437+ paddles, side-by-side comparison tool, and an intelligent quiz that recommends the perfect paddle based on your play style.
Challenge
Pickleball players struggle to find the right paddle from hundreds of options. Paddle specs like swing weight, twist weight, and spin RPM are scattered across review sites with no easy way to compare or get personalized recommendations based on play style and experience level.
Approach
Built a static Next.js site powered by a curated database of 437 paddles with 20 tracked stats per paddle. Scraped product images from manufacturer pages (377/437 coverage). Implemented instant search with multi-filter support, a side-by-side comparison tool for up to 5 paddles, and a two-route quiz system — one for players upgrading from an existing paddle, another for first-time buyers. Added a popularity ranking system using editorial signals from 4 major review sites.
Results
Launched a comprehensive paddle encyclopedia with full-text search, filterable database, visual stat comparison with best/worst highlighting, and an intelligent recommendation engine that factors in play style, skill level, and paddle preferences while biasing toward the latest 2025-2026 models.
